He is professor of Law at the Centre for Socio-Studies, Howard College School of Law, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa.
Professor McQuoid-Mason has conducted workshops on clinical legal education, legal aid and Street law in Africa; Central, South and South East Asia; Central and Eastern Europe; the Middle East and South America. He has authored and co-authored 21 books.
The overall mission of the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies’ Street Law and Democracy Education Program at the University of Natal is to enable high school students, school teachers, prisoners and community groups to understand the importance of human rights, democracy and the law, to demystify the law, and to show them how the law can be used to advance and protect human rights. The advantages of the methodology used are that they are interactive and based on experiential learning.
