Glasgow is situated on the west coast of Scotland, approximately 400 miles north of London. It has an International Airport with links to many major airport hubs in Europe and beyond. Greater Glasgow had a population of 1,199,629 at the 2001 census making it the largest urban area in Scotland and the fifth largest in the United Kingdom.
Travel from the Airports
Glasgow Airport is a short distance by bus from the city centre. The Shuttle Bus takes around 20-30 minutes and is the easiest form of transport. Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located 30 miles south of the city and caters more for holiday destinations. Edinburgh Airport is 40 miles to the East and has good transport links to Glasgow, making it a valid alternative. Manchester Airport station is 3.5hrs by train from Glasgow.
Travel by Train
Glasgow Central Station has direct trains to London (approx. 4/5hr) and a sleeper service operates overnight to London Euston. Queen Street Station has frequent direct services to Edinburgh, the East and North.
Glasgow Caledonian University
The conference will take place within one of Glasgow’s four universities. Glasgow Caledonian University, or GCU, is situated in the very centre of the city, close to transport, hotels, restaurants and shopping/leisure facilities. Glasgow has an abundance of hotels, ranging from exclusive to budget. GCU has a number of recommended hotels with preferential rates, although you may find cheaper costs booking direct or via a discount site. The conference team would recommend the following hotels for the conference:
